WGS 2010 Player by Player

February 4th, 2010

The following summaries of players are solely points for ponder. Do not be too overjoyed or saddened by it..as all of us have strengths and weaknesses. INCREASE those strengths, REDUCE those weaknesses. Coach will be there to guide

Asyran – Reliable goalkeeper who have defied injury, have the mental and physical strength to last the four games, not willing to crack even after our terrible loss to Marsiling. It could have reached double figures that day, and definitely kept us going in all our games with his saves and good handling

Nabil – Handpicked to lead the defensive line since 2009, this solid and experienced ‘B” division defender with astute reading of the game, cleared countless dangers and is equally comfortable with upcoming Ronald or Syazwan in the central defence partnership. Mr Reliable.

Syazwan (Cpt) – Newly appointed captain showed his grit and discipline in his defensive duties. A marked improvement from his ‘devil may care’ attitude in his early years, to lead the current Senior Vipers in his standard hard, robust and athletic style.

Ronald (Vice Cpt) – A classy player coming of age. With hard training and increased stamina, the player is ready to play at much higher levels. Excellent performance in 2010.

Nasrun - A player in Nabil mould. Faster version. Steady and consistent performances as a defensive midfielder caught the coach’s eye and an improvement in stamina and speed will make him a monster of a player next year. Watch out

Asydiq – Highly talented attacking player who have contributed hugely to the team, taking shots and testing the opposing defences with his runs. With more training days under his belt (same reason why he didnt feature in 2009), he would have punished the opposition teams even more. A disciplined Asydiq is a devastating player.

Sheizal – A left forward/winger converted to speedy left back thwarted many opposing wingers and is easily one of the best performers in 2010. He has impressed with his willingness and effectiveness in playing to instructions and to the game plan for the sake of the team. Simply impressive

Razman – Drafted in last minute due to an injury to Asyran as GK. He  even curbed his humourous nature to play admirably for the team as left back whenever needed. Clearing dangerous balls with his head and trusty left foot, providing relief moments for his team under pressure.

AL – Also a back up for GK, DR, MR and S… Mr Versatile transformed like Bumblebee or Optimus Prime into Mr MC by spraining his ankle in the first game. A jovial character through and through. he has since lived up to that reputation and liven up the team. An Unknown Fact: The Same Guy scored an own goal from THE KICKOFF in the street soccer court by smashing the ball against the crossbar and flying directly back into his own. Enough said

Javier - Shown potential to deal with competition level given the amount of minutes played. Strengths lie in his composure, ball skill and passes.

Edsel – Speed, tenacious but occasionally lack of concentration and prone to errors. One moment executing a goal line clearance or excellent tackle, the next giving a needless freekick or committing an unnecessary foul. Needs to work harder to give a more complete performance

Ramadan - A robust, fast and good defender but needs to work on confidence, given the dismal display in the 2nd game, overwhelmed by stronger opponents.

Rusde – Missing out in 2009, this speedy fullback made up for lost time to deliver good performances, flying tackles and more. If only he can last all the 4 games fully!

Idzhar – Another player who was absent from team 2009 showed flashes of brilliance with the sweet left foot of his. Need more speed and graft to add steel and effectiveness to his overall game.

Jumsari – Highly charged player, blessed with size, speed and both feet. However, a lack of composure, maturity and tactical awareness limited his attacking abilities on the flanks. Made amends for his performances by hustling and harassing the opposition, giving them no time to settle on the ball. With more training, this player will blaze the flanks and attract the crowd.

Syafiq – Former C boys captain gets the ‘thumbs up’ for his versatility and attacking ability. Yet when duty calls, the player sacrifices by covering the defence or any other position. Unfortunate to hit the crossbar in the final game, he deserves a goal to complete his overall contribution. A player to watch next year.

Syaffiq – A volleyed goal would give a much needed boost in his confidence as a skilful player on the flanks have hit low forms prior to this tournament. Much needed aggression and speed to take on more players. The coach has showned faith in him and will be looking for him to fire on all cylinders in 2011. 1 goal

Shah – A powerful right foot is not enough to win the game currently. Mr Ronaldo wannabe needs to work on his game more to reach his potential. What he does in training and friendly games have to be transferred into the competitive ones. For example, unleashing a ‘no holds barred’, net ripping freekick HAVE TO BE REPEATED with the same kind of courage that he has in training.

Francis - Much improved striker who scored a brace for his quickness and determination. A boy who works hard on his shots and dribbles, he takes pride in his game, representing the school and is always  working hard in training, keeping a cool head and giving his best in games. The coach wishes to see a further improved Francis, that will spell big trouble for our opponents. 2 goals

Qaiyum – an enigma. a dynamite, literally. A fit and present qaiyum will provide an extra attacking dimension to the team, virtually a goal or two or even more in him. Unfit and unpresent, he becomes a liability, making the team unbalance. Currently with 6 goals since 2009-2010, he could have scored more or could he? A hugely talented striker, but which Qaiyum will turn up in 2011? The school  awaits…
